Life on high seas

April 7, 2017

I am a little cork
In the immense volume of
water called the ocean
I ride the waves
Like surfers do
Up and down
Over the crest
O what a feeling
I gulped the sea water
And feel the stinging salt
In my throat and eyes
Trying to keep my nose
above the water
Battered left and right
Up and over my head
Catching my breath
And staying calm and
gathering my wits to ride the storm
I rest and take a breather
I look up above and see
the blue skies
The clouds in their formation
All shapes and even figures
What a sight
Even this does not last
For alas
Soon the sun’s heat becomes unbearable
Scorching my skin
Suddenly the rain pelted
me painfully hitting my face
The thunderstorms and
lightning flashes have begun
Dusk has set in
And in pitch darkness of the night
The water has turned icy
And the winds biting
But the tide brings me to shore
And there I cling onto a boulder
Shielded from the harsh elements
I rest my tired and beaten body
Thankful for the brief respite
To catch my sleep and face another day
With hope, trepidation and fortitude
