Yesteryears

Growing up in Galloway
Seems so long ago
Neighbours and friends
Faded faces Forgotten names
Childish games Fun and laughter
Out in the streets
We gather in the evenings
Playing police and thieves
Eagle and mother hen
Protecting her young
With shrieks and screams
We run from  predators
Faces flushed, eyes gleaming
With genuine excitement.
Tin cans, marbles, bottle caps
Rubber bands and simple sticks
Match boxes and spiders
Catching tadpoles,collecting
Cigarette boxes,homemade kites
The list goes on and on
These were our toys
Recycled stuff..
Sigh…such good times
