Night
October 30, 2016
It’s that time of night
When I find delight
Watching eternity so far
Dotted with a myriad stars
Dancing in the Milky way
As the cool breeze sway
The boughs of sleepy trees
Awaken the night creatures
From their days slumber
To engage in nights labour
Of hunting and foraging
Or even just engaging
In activities nontheless discreetly
Like the night owl quietly
Swooping in on its subject
The multitude of insects
Singing in cacophonic harmony
The slithering serpent silently
Swallowing a poor creature
Too slow to escape its deathly lure
Then back into its hollow creep
Amongst the craggy rocks so deep
Frogs and toads add to the chorus
Of the night their mournful songs
Booming the dark like trombones
Fireflies light up the trees
Casting dimples of light on leaves
Sonar beeps from the bats
Sweep thru’ the air like jets
Sucking in bugs and mosquitoes
Perhaps even flying ants and moths
Some are too shy to show
Unseen, but eyes aglow
Like spectators around the ring
Patiently waiting…watching…
In a never ending circle
Of predator and prey.
